Monday highlight: Train car wall display & Apple Math

Mondays should allow our children and ourselves to ease back into home learning. This is why Mondays include a simple introduction of the new letter, review, and an easy to do activity.

Therefore, we began with our morning basket. During this time we read heart themed books and poems specifically for my preschooler, Mick.

Next comes the Train Car Wall Display, Mick colored the uppercase and lowercase letters for “H”. After hanging on the wall we reviewed the alphabet song. Later that day, while my 5 year old worked on his math lesson, Mick and I used Apple Math to practice his numbers.

Although I will only highlight Apple Math today, we will pull it out at other times during the week. For example, it is usually when big brother works on his math.

Tuesday highlight: Pin the Heart

One of our morning basket books is How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. Even if Christmas time is not near it is such an appropriate book for the theme of hearts it should be considered.

Keep in mind review is essential to do on top of the new activities because this allows our child to focus on recognizing the letters. Today we used our alphabet wooden puzzle as review. I only supply Mick with the letters he has learned. In this case, today he received the new letter “H” to add to letters “A-G”.

Then, later in the afternoon we were able to play Pin the Heart. The boys love this educational spin on the childhood classic, Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

Wednesday highlight: Internal Organs printable

To begin our day, morning basket and review were completed as usual. Then, I gave Mick a coloring page to complete because I was not entirely ready for the activity. I had laminated the printables but had not cut them out. As a result Mick practiced more with the letter “H” while I prepared his interactive printable.

Once completed I placed tape on the back, sticky side out, and Mick learned more about major organs in the body.

Thursday highlight: send hearts by mail

This day is all about love…and learning. We began with a review using the alphabet puzzle instead of morning basket. The reasoning is because I wanted our activity to immediately follow a specific book we would read during morning basket time. We read The Day it Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond. When I told the boys we would be doing the same thing as the little girl they were very excited.

For the activity we created letters made of hearts, stickers, and a variety of other things. Then Mick learned about how to address an envelope and send a letter through the postal system. To read more about this activity go to Teach your 3-5 year old about the postal system.

On Fridays we attend our local nature group which is an enjoyable way to end our week with other families in nature.

A variety of heart opportunities.

There are so many fun and varied activity ideas this week that it is difficult to decide. Your child has the opportunity to learn about human anatomy and sending letters. But that’s just the beginning. Send Hearts by Mail is an opportunity for your child to think about other’s interests and what makes them happy.

Make this schedule work for you and your family. If you feel inspired to try any of these activities you can. Read more about all of them at Hh is for Heart. Follow the button below.
